What is a pocket wifi?
It's a wireless modem that connects anything Wi-Fi enabled, like an iPhone, laptop or tablet, to 3G Internet. It requires no installation, cables or software. It works like a Wi-Fi hotspot, but it's personal and fits in your pocket. Thus the name, pocket wifi!
However, if you have rented for multiple days, as long as you are within your overall data allowance for the rental period, there will be no extra data charges if you exceed 100MB on one particular day.
What exactly can I connect the pocket wifi to?
The pocket wifi works with any Wi-Fi enabled devices: laptops, smartphones (e.g. iPhone, Androids) or tablets (e.g. iPad, Samsung Galaxy).
How do I connect my device to the pocket wifi?
You must first open the wireless network menu of your laptop, smartphone or tablet. You'll then have to select the FrenchConnection network and enter the password. Note that this password will be sent to you by email when we ship your device. It is also printed on a sticker inside the case. . Then simply click on “connect” and you’re there!
How much data do I have?
100MB is the daily data allowance. A typical user would use between 250 and 500MB per month when at home, so this is a large allowance. We think that you will use more when abroad, looking for things to do and restaurants. Also, you wont have your home wireless connection in the evening.
Note that videao streaming while possible with our system, will consume 200 to 500MB per hour!
Lastly, pay attention when connecting a laptop to our device. Switch off software updates, dropbox, iCloud and all the apps that could end up connecting to the internet "silently"
How can I find out how much data I have left?
The simplest solution is to check the device's own webpage. Its address? http://frenchco.fr/c.aspx?s=xxxxxx whith xxxxxx being the unique number of your device. This number is printed on the back of your device. You can also check your account online. Your account will show how much data you have used.
Because of the way the mobile phone systems work, we only get notice of your consumption up to 2 hours AFTER the end of your connection session. This means that sometimes you will pass one or more thresholds before getting a warning. Keep an eye on your consumption on your side.
What if I go over the daily data allowance?
If you have rented for 1 day, and go over the 100MB data allowance, you will be charged by MB at your daily rate (in this example 0, 14€)
Can I have a history of my data usage?
Yes, simply log on to your account to track what you have used.
Can I use the pocket wifi for VoiP calls (e.g. Skype or Face time)?
Yes, you can make VOIP calls.
What is the connection speed?
The speed can vary depending of the strength of the signal. On average, the connection speed is 5.6Mbps but can reach a maximum of 7.2Mbps.
Can I share my hotspot with other Wi-Fi enabled devices at the same time?
You can with a maximum of 5 devices at the same time. Naturally, the speed will be split between the devices and the rate of data consumption will rise.
Do I need to un-lock or jailbreak my phone for it to work with the pocket wifi?
No. The pocket wifi is a Wi-Fi connection, so it will work even if your phone is locked.
How do I get charged and billed?
FrenchConnection is a post paid service. Your credit card will be authorised for the rental amount plus 100€ deposit for the device when you reserve. You will be billed by Ogone once the rental period is completed and the device has been returned.
security deposit
When you rent with FrenchConnection, we hold a security deposit of 100EUR per device rented. This is to cover our risk in case of loss theft or damage.
My travel plans have changed, can I cancel?
You may cancel any reservation at any time using your online account. If you cancel less than 3 days prior to arrival, the device will already have been sent, so a 1 day rental charge will apply.
How can I enquire for a refund?
Contact us, we are open to discussion!
